Different Types of Drinkware and Their Origins
Mug – A mug is a sturdy cup with a handle that is most often used for drinking hot drinks like coffee, tea and hot water. Mugs come in all different sizes and are among the top gifts given to bosses and usually contain writing on them like “I’m With Stupid.”
Wine Glass – A wine glass has a long glass stem that leads up to a wide glass cup. The glass cup is wider than most regular cups because people with big noses love to drink wine and need the extra room.
Stemless Wine Glass – Stemless Wine Glasses were once regular wine glasses that had the misfortune of feeding their consumers too much wine.
Champagne Flute—Champagne Flutes have slim cups and long stems. They are said to be the distant, slimmer relatives of the wine glass. The Champagne flute was designed thin so that people with short fat faces were magically stretched longer and thinner when sipping on the finest bubbly.
Shot Glass – Shot glasses are small glasses that usually hold only a couple ounces of hard liquor. Shot glasses were developed so that guys could hammer down 5 shots of pure liquor which would then enable them to move from out of the shadows and speak to a pretty girl. When a man and women do shots together that is called “courting” and a baby is usually born shortly afterwards.
Tea Cup – The tea cup was developed so that British people could sip hot tea morning, noon and night while delicately showing off their pinky. It is also rumored that imaginary friends of 5 year old girls once banded together to try and stop all productions of tea sets so that they would never have to sit through another tea party again. Unfortunately their voice was never heard. I guess the imaginary union is not as strong as the real union.
Short Drinking Glass – The short drinking glass also known as the tumbler holds roughly 12 ounces of any liquid except hot lava. If you do not believe me then you are welcome to try and fill your tumbler with hot lava at your own risk. Please let us know how it turns out.
Tall Drinking Glass – Tall drinking glasses are roughly two times the height of tumbler glasses yet only hold about 4 ounces more, bringing the total to 16 ounces. That perplexes me.
Goblet – The goblet has the shape of a wine glass but is bulkier and made out of precious metals and is encrusted with fine jewels and stones. It is the preferred drinkware of kings and pimps.

Pub Glass – Pub Glasses are tall glasses that get wider as they near the top. They were designed to hold foamy beer from the tap, and the sleek design gives the wielder maximum control of the condensation covered cup. Many experiments have been performed on the pub glass to try and increase maximum drinking efficiency. One experiment wrapped rubber around the glass to increase friction between the cup and drinking hand which led to a shorter time period from raising the cup off the bar to the mouth increasing beer consumption by 35%!
